Murphy Selected to USA Hockey’s National Junior Team Preliminary Roster

GLENDALE, ARIZONA – USA Hockey announced today that Connor Murphy, the Coyotes’ first round draft selection (20th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft has been selected to USA Hockey’s National Junior Team Preliminary Roster.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound defenseman has played in 28 games for the Sarnia Sting (OHL) this season and has recorded 5-9-14 with a plus-8 rating and 28 PIM. The Dublin, Ohio native posted 8-18-26 in 35 games with Sarnia last season.

The 19-year-old Murphy and the 27 players on the USA’s preliminary roster will attend training camp Dec. 16-18 at the New York Rangers' Madison Square Garden Training Center in Tarrytown, N.Y. An additional camp will follow in Helsinki, Finland, with the final 23-man roster announcement scheduled for Dec. 23.

The 2013 U.S. National Junior Team will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2012-Jan. 5, 2013, in Ufa, Russia.
