GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have assigned forwards Chris Brown, Andy Miele, Brendan Shinnimin and Jordan Szwarz as well as defensemen Brandon Gormley and Chris Summers to the Portland Pirates, the Coyotes American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Brown has recorded 12-9-21 and 61 penalty minutes (PIM) in 37 games with Portland this season. The 21-year-old native of Flower Mound, Texas was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the second round (36th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Miele ranks third on Portland in scoring this season with 11-15-26 and 41 PIM in 35 games. His 11 goals rank third on the team and his three game winners are tied for first. The Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., native played in seven games with the Coyotes last season. He led Portland in scoring in 2011-12 with 16-38-54 and 43 PIM in 69 games. He ranked ninth among all AHL rookies in scoring. The Coyotes originally signed Miele as a free agent on April 2, 2011.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Shinnimin has posted 8-12-20 in 38 games with Portland this season. The 22-year-old native of Winnipeg, Manitoba was signed as a free agent by the Coyotes on Mar. 2, 2012.
The 5-foot-11, 196-pound Szwarz has recorded 6-14-20 in 32 games with the Pirates this season. The 21-year-old native of Burlington, Ontario was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the fourth round (97th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
The 6-foot-2, 196-pound Gormley has posted 3-7-10 in 34 games with Portland this season. The 20-year-old native of Murray River, Prince Edward Island was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the first round (13th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
The 6-foot-2, 209-pound Summers has recorded 1-7-8 and 37 PIM in 34 games with the Pirates this season. The 24-year-old native of Ann Arbor, Mich., has played in 23 NHL games in his career with the Coyotes posting 0-3-3 and 15 PIM. Summers was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the first round (29th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
