GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have re-signed defenseman Chris Summers to a one-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are pleased to sign Chris to a one-year contract,” said Maloney. “Chris is an excellent skater and continues to improve each season. He adds depth to our blueline corps and we look forward to having him back in our lineup this season.”
In parts of three NHL seasons, the 6-foot-2, 209-pound Summers has appeared in 29 games with the Coyotes, totaling 0-3-3 and 24 penalty minutes (PIM).
"I'm very excited to continue my career with the Phoenix Coyotes,” said Summers. “Today is a very exciting day for me and my family. I am looking forward to a great season”
Last season, the 25-year-old native of Ann Arbor, Mich., appeared in six games with the Coyotes. He also recorded 2-10-12 and 53 PIM in 60 games with Portland (AHL). Summers represented the Pirates at the 2013 AHL All-Star Classic where he won the fastest skater competition in the AHL Skills Competition.
Summers was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the first round (29th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
