GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have recalled defenseman Brandon Gormley and assigned forward Tim Kennedy to the Portland Pirates, the club’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.
The 6-foot-2, 196-pound Gormley has registered five assists with four penalty minutes (PIM) in seven games with the Pirates this season. He led all Portland defensemen in scoring at the time of his recall. The 21-year-old native of Murray River, Prince Edward Island appeared in 68 games with the Pirates in 2012-13, totaling 5-24-29 and 44 PIM, which were all AHL career highs.
Gormley was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the first round (13th overall) in the 2010 Entry Draft.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Kennedy has played in six games with Phoenix this season, recording three assists. He has also appeared in one game with the Pirates. The 27-year-old native of Buffalo, N.Y., has recorded 13-21-34 and 56 penalty minutes (PIM) in 131 career NHL games.
Kennedy was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in the sixth round (181st overall) in the 2005 Entry Draft.
