GLENDALE - Coyotes captain Shane Doan is optimistic that he will return to the lineup before too long.
"It's going to take a little bit of time, but I'll be back," Doan told reporters during the second intermission on Saturday night. "I'm starting to come around. I'm comfortable and getting out and doing things."
Doan began feeling poorly during the team's Western Canadian road trip earlier this month. He last played Dec. 4 at Calgary. Once the team reconvened in Vancouver the next day, Doan was too ill to play.
Doan stayed behind in Phoenix for tests while his teammates flew to Denver for a road game against the Colorado Avalanche last Tuesday. Results of those tests are expected in a few days.
"It would help if they could say this is what it was or what it is, but I'm responding to what they have me on and I'm feeling better," he said. "I was not feeling too hot for a few days."
Doan, was who has been suffering headaches and body aches, said he is beginning to respond to medication and that he was able to ride a stationary bike for 10 minutes on Saturday.
The Coyotes start a four-game road trip Tuesday at Montreal. Doan has not ruled out going on the trip with the team.
"We'll have to wait and see how I'm feeling after a couple days," Doan said. "I'm starting to come around and now I'm comfortable and able to get out and do things."
He added, "As long as we keep winning, it makes it way easier (to be out of the lineup)."
