Coyotes defenseman Zbynek Michalek will be sidelined indefinitely after suffering a lower-body injury in Tuesday’s game at Montreal.
In response, the Coyotes on Thursday recalled defenseman Rostislav Klesla from the American Hockey League.
Michalek, who missed nine games earlier this season with a lower-body injury, has left the team to see team medical staff in Arizona for further evaluation.
Despite missing nine games, Michalek leads the Coyotes with 72 blocked shots - which is good for 14th place in the NHL. He has chipped in four assists and is plus-10 in 24 games.
Klesla re-joins the Coyotes after notching one goal and one assist in six games with the Portland Pirates.
"Hopefully he got his legs under him ... and gives us a hand on the blue line," Head Coach Dave Tippett said.
The Coyotes play the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight at the Air Canada Centre.
