GLENDALE – The Coyotes have joined the recent social media effort to help raise awareness for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

With cameras rolling, Shane Doan, Mike Smith, Keith Yandle and other players doused themselves with buckets of ice cold water over the weekend and then challenged others to do the same as part of the "Ice Bucket Challenge" on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and across the Internet. The videos of the soakings have gone viral.

The effort is to show support for Pete Frates and to call attention to the fight against ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Frates, the former captain of the Boston College baseball team, was diagnosed with ALS in 2012. Since then he has dedicated himself to raising awareness for ALS.

Other Coyotes who have taken the "Ice Bucket Challenge" include Sam Gagner, B.J.Crombeen, Chris Summers and David Moss.
