On Sunday, USA Hockey began the on-ice portion of their 2007 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp at Lake Placid New York.  The group of 46 players was broken down into two squads (USA White and USA Blue).  Once the teams were established, the American groups would hold two scrimmages as they prepared for this week’s games against Finland and Sweden.

Phoenix Coyotes prospect and University of Michigan defenseman Chris Summers was placed on USA White and helped lead his team to a 2-0-0 record over USA Blue.

The first exhibition game took place last Sunday afternoon with USA White pulling out a 7-6 victory.  In the contest, Summers received a minor hooking penalty for his efforts to prevent a breakaway by USA Blue forward Patrick Kane (selected by Chicago with the first overall selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft).  Unfortunately, Kane would be awarded a penalty shot, which he would convert to give USA Blue a 4-2 lead, but a four-goal third period by USA White proved to be the difference on Day One.

On Monday, the teams went at it again, and once again USA White staged a third period comeback capped off by Summers’ power play goal with less than a minute left in regulation to give his team a 4-3 win.  In addition to his game-winning tally, Summers also added a shorthanded assist on the first goal of the game at 9:41 of the opening period and a tripping penalty mid-way through the third.

USA White and USA Blue will begin international competition on Tuesday with USA Blue facing Finland in the afternoon, followed by USA White taking on Sweden in the evening.

All games will be played in the 1980 Rink at Herb Brooks Arena.  For a complete schedule of the games, see below:
