CANADA DOMINATES RUSSIA IN 8-1 WIN

Tuesday, 09.04.2007 / 11:19 PM / Features
By Chad Lynch
On Tuesday night, the 2007 Super Series resumed, this time on Canadian soil, as Team Canada crushed Russia by the score of 8-1.

The two squads would battle through a scoreless first period before Canada’s Claude Giroux (drafted by Philadelphia, 2006) scored two goals less than three minutes apart, early in the second period.  Russia fought back minutes later to cut the lead in half on a power play goal by Alexander Vasyunov.

Following the goal by Vasyunov, Phoenix Coyotes prospect Kyle Turris helped put the Canadians back up by two when defenseman Logan Pyett (drafted by Detroit, 2006) took a feed from Turris and beat Rusian netminder Sergei Borovsky for a short handed goal at 11:52 of the second.  Shortly thereafter, Canada recorded a pair of power play goals within 66-seconds of each other, giving them a 5-1 lead after 40-minutes of play.

In the third period, Canada continued to pour on the pressure as Zachary Boychuk and Zach Hamill (drafted by Boston, 2007) added their second and first goals of the series, respectively.

Turris would make put the exclamation point on the night at 15:31 of the third period when he recorded his fourth goal of the series.  Canada forward John Tavares recorded the lone assist on the goal by Turris.

TURRIS TIED FOR 1ST
Kyle Turris’ third period goal on Tuesday night was his fourth of the series and moves him into a tie for most goals with teammate and Edmonton Oilers prospect Sam Gagner.  In addition to his four goals, Turris has recorded one assist, putting him in a tie for fifth place in overall points.

NEXT GAME
Canada and Russia will resume play on Wednesday, September 5th as the series moves to its second Canadian stop, at Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon.
