Each week during the NCAA hockey season, PhoenixCoyotes.com will take a look at the past week's performances by the Coyotes prospects currently playing college hockey.
With ten talented players, including three former first-round draft picks, spread across seven of the best hockey programs in North America, the Coyotes' connection to college hockey is one of the strongest and most talented in the NHL.
Weekly Report:
Kevin Porter continues to lead the Michigan Wolverines as he added six points (4 goals, 2 assists) in a weekend series with Lake Superior. Porter’s weekend totals currently have him leading all NCAA Division 1 scorers in total points (18) and goals (13); he also continues to be the heavy favorite to capture the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to College Hockey’s Most Valuable Player.
University of Minnesota forward Blake Wheeler regained his scoring touch last weekend as he recorded a pair of goals and an assist in the Golden Gophers’ two-game set with Alaska Anchorage.
Goaltender Brett Bennett split a pair of games at Vermont, allowing just one goal, while stopping 15-shots in Friday night’s 9-1 victory.
**JUNIOR UPDATE**
Coyotes 2007 second round draft pick (32nd overall), Brett MacLean, continues to dominate the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) as he scored seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) in three games last week. MacLean is currently second in the league in scoring with 46 points and leads the OHL in goal with 26.
