When the Phoenix Coyotes agreed to put their logo on Jeff Quinney’s golf shirt and become the first team to individually sponsor a PGA Golfer, they dreamed of days like Sunday February 17th, 2008.

Jeff Quinney entered Sunday’s final round duel with Phil Mickelson just one stroke back with his eyes set on winning the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club.  After back to back birdies to close out the front nine, Quinney had stormed to a one shot advantage over Mickelson as they prepared for the final challenging nine holes.

Three bogeys in a row on the back nine would prove to be too much for Quinney to overcome. Oddly enough, it was the putter which had been magic for Quinney that let him down with a couple uncharacteristic three putts.

Mickelson was rock solid on the final nine as he converted two birdies with only one bogey to close out a two shot victory.

Look for more great things from Jeff Quinney all year on the PGA Tour. If he continues to play like this, he will be wearing the logo of the Phoenix Coyotes as he collects a first place check and trophy.
