GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed 2008 first round draft picks Mikkel Boedker and Viktor Tikhonov to entry level contracts.  As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
“We are thrilled to sign Mikkel and Viktor to contracts,” said Maloney.  “We feel that both players have bright futures ahead of them in the Coyotes organization and we look forward to seeing them develop over the next several years.”
Boedker, 18, was selected by the Coyotes with the eighth overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.  He recorded 29-44-73 and 14 penalty minutes (PIM) in 69 games with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) last season.  His 73 points ranked 3rd among OHL rookies.  A native of Copenhagen, Denmark, Boedker also ranked T-2nd in the OHL in game-winning goals last season with nine.
The 5-foot-11, 195-pound right wing helped lead Kitchener to the OHL championship and the Memorial Cup final during the 2007-08 campaign.  Boedker, ranked No. 11 among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting, finished 2nd in OHL playoff scoring this season after recording 9-26-35 in 20 games.  He also registered 2-4-6 in five Memorial Cup games.
Voted as the OHL’s Best Skater in the Western Conference in the annual Coaches Poll, Boedker also represented Team Denmark at the 2008 World Junior Championships and ranked 2nd on the team in scoring with 2-4-6 in six games.  In 2006-07, Boedker played for Frolunda in the Swedish Junior League.  He registered 19-30-49 and 14 PIM in 39 games while leading his team to the league championship.
Tikhonov, 20, was selected by the Coyotes in the first round (28th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.  The pick was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for two second round picks (35th and 39th overall) in the 2008 Entry Draft.
Tikhonov recorded 7-5-12 and 43 PIM in 43 games with Cherepovets of the Russian league last season.  The 6-foot-2, 187-pound right wing was named Best Forward and to the tournament All-Star Team at the 2008 World Junior Championship after recording 5-2-7 in seven games for Russia. A native of Riga, Latvia, Tikhonov was ranked No. 7 among European skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
