NEW LINEUP FOR GAME AT CALGARY

By Dave Vest
The Coyotes headed to Calgary on Monday as they started a two-game, four-day trip that also will stop in Vancouver. First up is game against the Flames on Tuesday night at Pengrowth Saddledome.

Before leaving, the Coyotes practiced at Jobing.com Arena, and Head Coach Wayne Gretzky again shook up the lineup, up front and on the blue line.

The big news is that rookie Kyle Turris will be scratched from Tuesday’s game in favor of Garth

Murray, who was recalled from the team’s American Hockey League affiliate on Monday. Gretzky said it would be a one-game rest for Turris, and that the third overall pick in the 2007 NHL Draft would play Thursday at Vancouver.

“I told (Turris) this morning not to read into it,” Gretzky said. “He’s only 19 and we were in a similar situation last year with Peter (Mueller) …It’s a big step from college to the NHL and as I told him, this will be a real positive for him. In fairness to him, he’s a guy that’s used to playing 20, 21minutes a game, and with Olli (Jokinen) in the middle taking up so many minutes, it’s been a little difficult for me to get him as much playing time as he’s comfortable with. But in saying that, he’s played well when he has played in the minutes he’s gotten... He’s got a long career ahead of him (and) he’s going to have a great career. Right now, we just think this might be the best move for him as a kid and as a person…It’ll be good for him."

training camp and he gives us a little more grit and maybe he’s a guy we can lean on to win a little more faceoffs,” Gretzky said. “We haven’t been very good on faceoffs this year as a team, so we’re going to give him a shot here and I know he’ll go in there and play hard.”

In other lineup news, Gretzky reunited Shane Doan, Olli Jokinen and Peter Mueller on the top line.

Looking for more offensive production, Gretzky also shook up the defensive pairings. Ed Jovanovski and Derek Morris have been split up, with Jovanovski now playing with Zbynek Michalek, and Morris now playing with Kurt Sauer.

Shane Doan-Olli Jokinen-Peter Mueller
