The Coyotes traded their sticks for clubs as players, coaches and front-office staff members teed off for charity at the 12th annual Coyotes Charities Golf Classic, presented by Heritage Graphics, on Oct. 27 at Legend Trail Golf Club in Scottsdale.

Joined by their fans and corporate partners, the Coyotes helped raise nearly $70,000 for the community through the tournament, silent auctions and other various donations made by the participants throughout the day.

Each fivesome featured a member of the Coyotes as 28 groups hit the links in a best-ball scramble format. Highlighting the course were a number of specialty holes, including a longest drive, hole-in-one and closest to the curved line contest.

PGA golfer Jeff Quinney, whom the Coyotes sponsored in 2008, spent the day at the 12th hole hitting tee shots on the 225-yard par 3 for anyone who gave $20 to Coyotes Charities. Also available for a small donation were mulligans, providing well-needed “do-overs” for many of the non-professionals in attendance.

Ed Jovanovski worked hard for his second place finish at 15-under 57.

Taking the tournament title was forward Brian McGrattan as he and his partners posted a 16-under 56. Also finding success were forwards Steven Reinprecht and Daniel Winnik, who won the longest drive and closest to the pin contests, respectively.

The event capped off with even more prizes as raffle winners were announced during the post-tournament dinner, featuring a trip with the team to its Feb. 11 game in Dallas.

The day’s biggest winner, of course, was Coyotes Charities, which seeks to enhance the quality of life in Arizona’s communities. Since it’s inception in 2001, Coyotes Charities has committed more than $1 million in grants and gifts to non-profit organizations throughout the state that promote healthcare, education, cultural arts and sports-related programs for children.
