Shane Doan scored a goal in his 900th NHL regular-season game Tuesday night against Chicago, a game the Blackhawks won 3-2 in a shootout at Arena.

“It doesn’t seem like it’s been 900 games,” Doan said. “It’s kind of funny. I remember guys playing 900 games and they seemed kind of old.”

Doan, 32, was voted the game’s No. 2 star because of his goal, his four shots on goal, his four hits and the way he nearly willed the Coyotes to a come-from-behind victory in the third period. The goal he scored was his 10th of the season in his 17th game. That’s the quickest he’s reached 10 goals in any of his 13 NHL seasons.

Doan Career Highlights
Career Statistics
Doan has played all 900 games for the same franchise, a rarity in today’s modern sports world.

“It’s a huge blessing and honor,” Doan said when asked about playing his entire career with Winnipeg/Phoenix. “I’ve played with a lot of guys that have come and went to other teams, and a lot of my friends have been traded and moved, so it’s pretty special, for sure.”

Doan plays a power game, which makes his game total even more impressive.

“Shane’s game is power and when he’s physical and when he’s powerful, that’s when he’s playing his best hockey,” Coyotes Head Coach Wayne Gretzky. “… So, to be able to play that many games at that level of intensity is pretty solid.”

Doan was asked to reveal the secret to his longevity in the league.

His response: “I’ve been blessed. There’s not really any one little thing or key, it’s just one of those things. I love to play. There’s nothing I enjoy more than to play hockey.” is the official Web site of the Arizona Coyotes.
