GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have signed goaltender Brian Boucher to a one-year contract.  As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Boucher led all Coyotes goaltenders in games played, minutes, wins and shutouts during the 2003-04 season.  The 6-foot-2, 198-pound netminder compiled a 2.74 goals against average (GAA), .906 save percentage (SV%) and a 10-19-10 record in 40 games.  Boucher performed one of the most incredible feats in hockey history when he set two new modern-day NHL records with 5 consecutives shutouts and a shutout sequence of 332:01, breaking the 55-year-old records of Montreal's Bill Durnan (4 shutouts, 309:21 sequence in 1948-49).  Boucher's five consecutive shutouts came on Dec. 31 vs. LA (4-0, 21 saves), Jan. 2 at DAL (6-0, 35 saves), Jan. 4 at CAR (3-0, 26 saves), Jan. 7 at WSH (3-0, 27 saves) and Jan. 9 at MIN (2-0, 21 saves).  Boucher played 332:01 without allowing a goal from 19:15 of the 2nd period at NSH, Dec. 22 through 6:16 of the 1st period vs. ATL, Jan. 11.
"There was never any doubt that we wanted Brian back in the fold," said Barnett.  "He was a very solid No. 1 goaltender in Philadelphia and last year evidenced his considerable skills while breaking a 55-year-old NHL record for shutouts.  With improvements in many areas of our line-up, we feel confident that Brian can play an important and leading role in seeing us become a bonafide playoff club."
The 28-year-old native of Woonsocket, Rhode Island has played 5 seasons in the NHL split between Phoenix and Philadelphia.  In his NHL career, Boucher has collected a 2.65 GAA, .901 SV% and a 71-77-30 record.  He was originally drafted by Philadelphia in the first round (22nd overall) of the 1995 Entry Draft.  Boucher led the Flyers to the 2000 Eastern Conference Finals, posting record of 11-7 with a 2.03 GAA and .917 SV% in 18 games.  After three seasons in Philadephia, the Coyotes acquired Boucher from the Flyers via trade on June 12, 2002. is the official Web site of the Arizona Coyotes.
