COYOTES' CARAVAN RECAP: DAY 2

On Thursday, the Coyotes' Caravan continued its tour of the Valley with stops in Chandler and North Phoenix.

In Chandler, Coyotes players Boyd Devereaux and Jason Chimera, along with Coyotes Radio Play-by-Play Announcer Bob Heethuis, started the day with special lunch at the Cheesecake Factory for Coyotes Season Ticket Holders.  Guests in attendance were encouraged to ask questions and talk hockey with their favorite players over lunch.

Following lunch, the Caravan stopped at Frye Elementary School where students from kindergarten through sixth grade, were introduced to the players and received interactive seminar on hockey equipment and safety.  Afterwards, the students took turns asking questions and getting tips on everything from hockey to physical fitness.

The next stop in Chandler came at the Rose Lane Boys & Girls Club.  There, Devereaux and Chimera gave the boys and girls instruction on the game of hockey and oversaw a multitude of drills aimed at having fun.  In addition to the one-on-one instruction the kids received, they were also given Coyotes' Caravan prize packs a souvenirs.

Next, the Caravan stopped for a private dinner at Jily's American Grill.  After filling up, it was back out for the final stop of the day at Desert Schools Coyotes Center rink.  Fans who had signed up in advance on phoenixcoyotes.com, skated for over an hour before having the opportunity to receive autographs from Devereaux, Chimera and Heethuis.

While Chandler was following their Caravan around the city, another Coyotes' Caravan was cruising around North Phoenix.

The North Phoenix Caravan featured Coyotes players Mike Comrie and Mike Johnson as well as Coyotes Television Play-by-Play Announcer Curt Keilback and Coyotes Television Color Analyst Darren Pang.

The first stop in North Phoenix was special luncheon with Season Ticket Holders at Z' Tejas.  After a filling meal and informative question and answer session, the Caravan headed to there next stop.

Hidden Hills Elementary School was the next stop on the list.  Comrie and Johnson led a student assembly where kids had the chance to ask questions and try on professional ice hockey equipment.

The next stop was Mercury Mine After School Program.  There, kids in the program were given personal instruction and demonstrations by the Caravan members, before showing off their own skills in a series of stick drills; including a highly competitive stick drill race.  The stop concluded with an extensive questions and answer period for both the after school programs kids and staff.

Next up for the Caravan was an autograph signing party at Half Moon Grill, followed by a trip to Ozzie Ice Rink.  At Ozzie Ice Rink, fans that signed up in advance on phoenixcoyotes.com were treated to a complementary hour of skating, followed by a autograph session.

Today, the Caravan will again be out in the area with stops in Scottsdale, Glendale/Peoria and Tempe/Phoenix.  The public appearances are as follows:

The Scottsdale Caravan will feature Coyote players Shane Doan, Tyson Nash and Coyotes Television Play-by-Play Announcer Curt Keilback and Coyotes Television Color Analyst Darren Pang.  Fans in Chandler can attend the Caravan stop at the Alltel Ice Den with an open skate (click here to sign-up) from 5:00pm - 6:00pm, followed by an autograph session from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm.  Following the visit to the Ice Den, the Caravan will travel to San Felipe's Cantina, where fans can get autographs from 7:30pm - 8:30pm.

CoyoteFest Update
On Saturday, the Coyotes will return home where they will hold the inaugural "CoyotesFest" at the Glendale Arena to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts on Saturday, September 10 from noon to 6pm.  The event features a wide variety of activities that allow fans to interface with Coyotes players, coaches and broadcasters.
Players scheduled to appear include Captain Shane Doan, Brett Hull, Tyson Nash, Mike Ricci, Brian Boucher, Petr Nedved, Derek Morris, Oleg Saprykin, Ladislav Nagy, Paul Mara, Sean O'Donnell and Mike Leclerc. Also participating will be Head Coach Wayne Gretzky and Associate Coaches Barry Smith, Rick Tocchet and Rick Bowness. Broadcasters Darren Pang, Curt Keilback, Bob Heethuis and Louis DeBrusk will also appear at CoyotesFest.

Activities will be held throughout the Arena and on the ice and include the 2005-06 Season Preview seminar with coaches, Skill Demonstrations on the ice led by Associate Coach Rick Tocchet, a fan participation Jeopardy game; and a Kids' Korner that features fun for little ones such as cookie decorating, puck stacking contests, ball toss and a coloring contest.  In addition, there will be a number of autograph and photo sessions with the players, Zamboni rides, locker room tours, trivia contests, and KDUS 1060 will broadcast live from noon to 3:30 p.m. The program will feature interviews with Coyotes players and executives.

Although admission to CoyotesFest is free, the Coyotes are encouraging all attendees to bring new clothing, toys and toiletries to the event, which will be donated to the Salvation Army for the Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts. Coyotes Charities is requesting a $5 donation for Zamboni rides and a $5 donation for adults and a $1 donation for children 12 and under for locker room tours.  All donations will go to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.  In addition, the Coyotes will match all monetary donations made at CoyotesFest.
