On Tuesday, the Coyotes left Phoenix and headed north of the border to Vancouver, British Columbia, where they will face the Canucks in the first game of the 2005-06 regular season on Wednesday.

While there is no denying that a full NHL season is one of the most grueling events in modern day sports, the Coyotes welcome the season with open arms as it gives them a chance to play meaningful hockey once again.

"Everyone here is so excited," said Coyote forward Tyson Nash.  "The guys have worked hard in the preseason and now we are looking forward to getting the season started."

The 2005-06 preseason was a little longer than normal, but it helped prepare many players on the Coyotes and around the league for the regular season.

"We had a long preseason to get back in shape but now guys can't wait to get things going for real," said Coyotes forward Boyd Devereaux.

One factor that may actually play into the Coyotes favor is having the chance to open the season on the road.

"I think opening on the road this year is a good thing for our team," said Nash.  "It gives us the chance to come together as a team and we know that all we have to do is go out and play.  The fans in Vancouver will already be pumped up and with Wayne (Gretzky) being behind the bench, everyone in Canada is going to be watching, but we have the luxury of just coming in as visitors knowing all we have to do is play our game."

Following the game in Vancouver, the Coyotes will travel to Los Angeles to face Kings in a match up of Pacific Division rivals on Thursday.
