COYOTES TO NAME MASCOT "HOWLER"
Mascot to be introduced at Glendale Arena on October 15
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The Phoenix Coyotes announced today the team will name its mascot "Howler." The name "Howler" received an overwhelming majority of fan votes submitted through the "Name the Mascot" contest held on www.phoenixcoyotes.com. This will be the first time since the Coyotes debuted in Arizona in 1996 that the team will have a mascot.
The mascot will be present at all home games and will make appearances at community events, schools and team events throughout Arizona. The team has revealed that Howler will be a coyote, but will not release any further details about the character until he makes his public debut this Saturday October 15th when the Coyotes host the Detroit Red Wings at Glendale Arena.
The winner of the "Name the Mascot" is 13 year old Rebecca Domigan of Phoenix. She will receive four glass seats to the Coyotes game on October 29, a visit at their seats from Howler, as well as a Coyotes jersey. In addition, Howler will make a personal appearance at Rebecca's school or home.
"Since announcing that the Coyotes are introducing a mascot, we have received an overwhelmingly positive response from our fans, especially the youngsters. Howler will provide Coyotes fans lots of laughs and goodwill, both in Glendale Arena and around the state of Arizona," said Phoenix Coyotes Chief Marketing Officer Michael Bucek.
