On Tuesday night the Phoenix Coyotes defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in overtime for their second consecutive victory in as many nights.

In the first period the Coyotes got on the scoreboard first as Oleg Saprykin took a pass from Mike Leclerc, cut to the front of the net, went from his backhand to his forehand and flipped a shot past the glove of Edmonton netminder Jussi Markkanen for the 1-0 lead.

On Saprykin's very next shift, he would give Phoenix a two goal lead as he again took a feed from Leclerc and drove to the net.  Markkanen seemed to think Saprykin would try the same move on him that he had used just to minutes earlier, but this time the Coyotes forward simply slid the puck through the legs of Markkanen to give Phoenix a 2-0 lead.

The score would remain 2-0 until the second period when the Oilers cut the lead in half at 5:11 of the fame on a goal by Igor Ulanov.  Ulanov made it a 2-1 contest when he sent a laser of a wrist shot over the glove of Coyotes goaltender Curtis Joseph.  Marty Reasoner would get credit for an assist on Ulanov's goal as the duo hooked up in the first of two scoring plays on the night by their line.

As the third period began, the Coyotes had 1:19 of power play time that carried over from a late penalty in the second period on Edmonton's George Laraque.  Captain Shane Doan wouldn't let the opportunity go to waste as he scored his second goal of the season at 1:09 of the third period.  Phoenix forward Petr Nedved and defenseman Paul Mara would register assists on the goal giving the Coyotes a 3-1 lead.

But the Oilers would chip away at the Coyotes lead as Mike Peca scored with 15:32 left in the third period to cut the Coyotes lead to 3-2.

Three minutes later Edmonton tied the game at 3-3 when Marty Reasoner was able to flip the puck over the glove of Joseph for his second goal of the season.  Ulanov returned the favor reason showed in the second period as he recorded an assist on the game tying goal.

The Coyotes suffered a scare midway through the third period when Peca inadvertently hit Shane Doan with his stick, just above the Coyote forward's left eye.  With blood pouring from his wound, Doan skated off the ice and headed to the Coyotes dressing room where he received 10 stitches to close the gash and had a visor attached to his helmet before he returned late in the third period.

With 45 seconds left in the third period, Edmonton's Steve Staios was called for hooking, giving phoenix a late power play.  While the Coyotes wouldn't score in regulation they went off the attack at the start of overtime.

Just a minute into the extra session, defenseman Derek Morris blasted a shot from the top of the slot that deflected off the glove of Markkanen and into the net giving the coyotes the 4-3 win.
