GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have acquired right wing Pavel Brendl from Carolina in exchange for center Krystofer Kolanos.  Brendl has been assigned to the San Antonio Rampage (AHL), the Coyotes' top minor league affiliate.

Brendl, 24, has recorded 6-7-13 and 10 PIM in 25 games with Lowell (AHL) this season to rank fifth on the team in scoring.  The Opocno, Czech Republic native skated 18 games for Carolina in the 2003-04 season, collecting 5-3-8.  He also averaged a point per game with Lowell in 2003-04 by registering 17-16-33 in 33 AHL contests.  In 76 NHL games during his career, the 6-1, 200-pound Brendl has tallied 11-11-22 and 16 PIM with Philadelphia and Carolina.

Brendl was chosen by the New York Rangers with the fourth overall selection in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.  Coyotes center Jamie Lundmark was later drafted in the first round by the Rangers in 1999 with the ninth overall selection.

Brendl was named the Top Forward at the 2001 World Junior Championships while posting a tournament-high 10 points (4-6-10) and leading the Czech team to a gold medal.  In 1998-99, Brendl began a prolific junior career by leading the Western Hockey League (WHL) in goals (73), points (134), and plus/minus (+68).  He was named to the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) First All-Star Team and was honored as CHL Rookie of the Year for his performance that season.  Brendl again led the WHL in goals (59) and finished second in points (111) in 1999-00.

Kolanos has recorded 2-1-3 and 4 PIM in 15 NHL games with the Coyotes and Edmonton this season.  The Coyotes recently re-acquired Kolanos by claiming the center off waivers from Edmonton on Dec. 19 and assigned him to San Antonio.  The Oilers had claimed Kolanos off waivers from the Coyotes on Nov. 11.  In 3 games with the Rampage, Kolanos registered 0-1-1.

The Coyotes originally selected Kolanos in the first round (19th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.  For his career, Kolanos has compiled 17-18-35 and 76 PIM in 115 NHL games. is the official Web site of the Arizona Coyotes.
