COYOTES REASSIGN JONES TO SAN ANTONIO
GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes Executive Vice President and General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have reassigned defenseman Matt Jones to the San Antonio Rampage - the Coyotes' top minor league affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Jones, 22, has registered one assist and 10 penalty minutes (PIM) in 13 games with the Coyotes this season. The 6-foot, 215-pound blueliner has been called up to the Coyotes on three occasions this season. Jones recorded his first NHL point on Jan. 14 with an assist in the Coyotes' 4-3 win at Toronto.
In 28 games with San Antonio this season, Jones has collected 7 assists and 22 PIM. Earlier this month, the native of Downers Grove, Illinois was named to the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star Team for the 2006 AHL All-Star Classic to be played on in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
Jones was drafted by the Coyotes (3rd round, 80th overall) in the 2002 Entry Draft.
