COYOTES RECALL PAVEL BRENDL
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have recalled right wing Pavel Brendl from the San Antonio Rampage, the Coyotes' top minor league affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Since joining San Antonio on Dec. 28, the 24-year-old Brendl has collected 7 goals and 14 points in only 13 games with the Rampage. For the season, Brendl has combined totals of 13 goals, 14 assists and 27 points in 38 games split between San Antonio and Lowell (AHL). He currently ranks 1st on the Rampage in goals and shots (148); tied for 1st in power play goals (6); 2nd in points; and 3rd in assists.
The 6-foot-1, 204-pound forward was acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes on Dec. 28, 2005 in exchange for Krystofer Kolanos. This is his first recall to the Coyotes and he has not played in any NHL games this season. In his NHL career, Brendl has played in 76 games and tallied 11-11-22 and 16 PIM over parts of three seasons with Philadelphia and Carolina from 2001-02 to 2003-04. Brendl collected 5-3-8 in 18 games with Carolina in 2003-04. He also averaged a point per game with Lowell in 2003-04 by registering 17-16-33 in 33 AHL contests.
Brendl was chosen by the New York Rangers with the fourth overall selection in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Coyotes center Jamie Lundmark was later drafted in the first round also by the Rangers with the ninth overall selection in 1999.
The Opocno, Czech Republic was named the Top Forward at the 2001 World Junior Championships while posting a tournament-high 10 points (4-6-10) and leading the Czech Republic to a gold medal. In 1998-99, Brendl began a prolific junior career by leading the Western Hockey League (WHL) in goals (73), points (134), and plus/minus (+68). He was named to the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) First All-Star Team and was honored as CHL Rookie of the Year for his performance that season. Brendl again led the WHL in goals (59) and finished second in points (111) in 1999-00.
