GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have signed center Daniel Winnik to an entry-level contract that will begin with the 2006-07 season.  Winnik was selected by the Coyotes in the ninth round (265th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

"Daniel Winnik is a strong centerman who plays a pro-style game," said Coyotes Assistant General Manager Laurence Gilman.  "He had a solid career at the University of New Hampshire and we are confident that he is ready to start his professional career.  We are pleased to have him join the Coyotes' organization."

Winnik, 21, registered 15-26-41 and 17 penalty minutes (PIM) in 39 games as a junior at the University of New Hampshire this season.  He shared the team lead in assists and his 41 points ranked tied for 2nd on the Wildcats - just one point behind the leader.  The 6-foot-2, 210-pound forward finished tied for 4th in the Hockey East scoring race, collecting 10-18-28 in 26 conference games.  Winnik was honored as the Hockey East Player of the Month for November and, at the end of the season, was named to the All-Hockey East Second Team.

Winnik recorded 18-22-40 and 26 PIM in 42 games as a sophomore in 2004-05.  The Mississauga, Ontario native shared the team lead in plus/minus at +17 and was twice named Hockey East Player of the Week during the campaign.  Winnik was named to the NCAA Northeast Regional All-Tournament Team after registering 2-1-3 in two post-season games in 2005.  He collected 4-10-14 and 12 PIM in 37 games as a freshman in 2003-04.

Over three collegiate seasons, Winnik posted 37-58-95 and 55 PIM in 118 games.

Prior to attending UNH, Winnik recorded 20-33-53 and 70 PIM in 47 games for Wexford of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OPJHL) in 2002-03 to rank 12th in the league in scoring. is the official Web site of the Arizona Coyotes.
