COYOTES SIGN KEVIN CORMIER
GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have signed left wing Kevin Cormier to an entry-level contract. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Cormier, 20, played in 69 games this season with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), collecting 16-11-27 and 202 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-foot-3, 249-pound forward led the Mooseheads in PIM and ranked tied for 4th in the entire QMJHL. Cormier also finished 5th on the team in power play goals (7), 6th in goals and tied for 8th in points. He collected one assist and 18 PIM in 11 playoff games with Halifax.
Last season, the Moncton, New Brunswick native played in 60 games as a QMJHL rookie with Halifax, registering 2-5-7 and 235 PIM in 2004-05. Cormier's 235 PIM led the Mooseheads and ranked 2nd in the entire QMJHL.
Cormier was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the 6th round (168th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
