COYOTES TO OPEN 2006-07 PRESEASON IN WINNIPEG, MANITOBA
GAME SCHEDULED FOR SEPT. 17 VERSUS EDMONTON AT MTS CENTRE
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes will open the 2006-07 pre-season with a game versus the Edmonton Oilers in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Sunday, September 17, 2006 at the MTS Centre. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
"We are excited about returning to Winnipeg to play our first game in the city since the franchise moved to Phoenix after the 1995-96 season," said Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett. "Winnipeg has a rich hockey tradition and some of the best hockey fans in Canada. We are thrilled to play the Oilers at the beautiful new MTS Centre and look forward to a great game."
"Several members of our current Coyotes training staff and management were with the Jets in Winnipeg," added Coyotes assistant general manager Laurence Gilman. "We are looking forward to returning to Manitoba for this game."
In conjunction with the game, the Phoenix Coyotes will donate $50,000 to the KidsSport organization of Manitoba. KidSport is national charity administered by Sport Manitoba that helps to remove barriers and assist less fortunate children participate in sport. KidSport raises funds through corporate donations, foundation grants, planned giving and special activities and events. Funds that are raised help offset the cost of participant registration fees for community based sport programs. Funding is administered by Sport Manitoba's Regional Offices.
"We are very pleased to be able to give back to the community by making a donation to such a worthwhile organization like KidSport," said Gilman. "KidSport is a tremendous charity that allows less fortunate children to participate in sports and realize their dreams. We hope that the Coyotes' donation helps many children for years to come."
The Coyotes will announce their complete 2006-07 preseason schedule at a later date.
