GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have re-signed defenseman Keith Yandle to a two-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

“We are very pleased to have signed Keith Yandle to a new contract,” said Maloney. “He is a young and talented offensive-minded defenseman who will continue to play a major role on our team.”

Yandle, 22, recorded 4-26-30 and 37 penalty minutes (PIM) in 69 games with the Coyotes last season as he set career-highs in points, assists, games played and PIM. His 30 points also ranked 2nd among all Coyotes defensemen.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Yandle appeared in 43 games for the Coyotes during the 2007-08 campaign, registering 5-7-12 and 14 PIM. Yandle also played in seven games with Phoenix in 2006-07, notching two assists and eight PIM. In 119 career NHL games, Yandle has recorded 9-35-44 and 59 PIM.

Yandle appeared in 99 career games with San Antonio of the American Hockey League (AHL) in parts of two seasons (2006-07 and 2007-08) and registered 7-41-48 and 177 PIM. The Boston, Mass. native represented San Antonio in the 2007 AHL All-Star Game and finished the 2006-07 campaign as San Antonio’s top-scoring defenseman with 6-27-33.

Yandle played for Moncton of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in 2005-06 and led the league in assists (59) and points (84) among defensemen while being named the Canadian Major Junior Defenseman of the Year and a QMJHL First Team All-Star.
