GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have acquired right wing Radim Vrbata from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for left wing Todd Fedoruk and defenseman David Hale.

“We are very excited to bring Radim Vrbata back to Phoenix,” said Maloney. “He had a career year for us in 2007-08 and is a talented forward who can help us offensively next season.”

Vrbata, 28, recorded 3-3-6 in 18 games with Tampa Bay last season before playing 18 games with professional clubs in the Czech Republic. In 2007-08, Vrbata played 76 games for the Coyotes and recorded career-highs in goals (27), assists (29), points (56), power play goals (7), game-winning goals (5) and shorthanded goals (3). He ranked second on the Coyotes in goals and points.

Vrbata finished the 2006-07 season as Chicago’s second leading scorer after recording 14-27-41 and 26 penalty minutes (PIM) in 77 games. Vrbata also led the club in shots on goal (215) and was tied for first in power-play goals (5).

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound native of Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic has played in seven NHL seasons with Colorado, Carolina, Chicago, Tampa Bay and the Coyotes, recording 105-127-232 and 126 PIM in 440 career NHL games. Vrbata also represented Czech Republic in the 2005 and 2008 World Championship tournaments.

Vrbata was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche (7th choice, 212th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Fedoruk, 30, recorded 6-7-13 and 72 PIM in 72 games last season, his first with the Coyotes. In 495 career NHL games with Philadelphia, Anaheim, Dallas, Minnesota and the Coyotes, Fedoruk has collected 29-62-91 and 996 PIM.

Hale, 28, recorded 3-6-9 and 36 PIM in 48 games last season, his first with the Coyotes. In 263 career NHL games with New Jersey, Calgary and the Coyotes, Hale has registered 3-17-20 and 211 PIM.
