Coyotes forward Mikkel Boedker is eager for his second NHL season to begin in a few months, but he’s going to approach it like it’s his first season all over again.

“For sure it’s going to be different for me because now I know all the guys and how the league works, but I am still going to go into training camp with the same mind-set of I have to make this team and play good hockey,” Boedker said Wednesday. “Hopefully, we’ll have a really good year this year.”

Boedker is back in the Valley this summer braving the triple-digit temperatures. He said will stay here for good and train daily in preparation for the 2009-10 season. His off-season began with a trip to the IIHF World Championship in Switzerland followed by a six-week stay in his native Denmark.

“It’s really good to be back in Arizona,” Boedker said. “It’s a lot of fun here but you learn to stay inside in the summer, that’s for sure. ..I’ve been working out and I feel like I am getting stronger and getting into better condition. It’s been a lot of fun.”

Part of Boedker’s fun included showing first-round draft pick Oliver Ekman-Larsson around Arena and the team’s Westgate office a few weeks back.

“I think he was an excellent draft choice,” Boedker said of Ekman-Larsson. “I’ve never played against him, but I’ve had a few practices with him. He’s a really good skater and he has good hands like most Swedish players. Hopefully, he’ll continue his development and we’ll see him very shortly. I am really looking forward to having him here.”

Despite what the calendar reads, Boedker, who notched 11 goals and 17 assists in his rookie season, is ready for training camp to start.

“You’ve got to enjoy the off-season, but I am always eager to put the skates back on and get back out there with the boys and hear that whistle blow at practice,” he said. is the official Web site of the Arizona Coyotes.
