Coyotes players and prospects have started gathering at the Alltel Ice Den in Scottsdale this week for informal workouts in preparation for the 2009-10 season. Athletes Resource, an

organization dedicated to assisting individuals in developing, achieving and maintaining their athletic goals, again is staging the workouts for junior, college and pro players this summer at the Ice Den, four days per week. About 40 players showed up on Monday.

On Tuesday, Coyotes players Shane Doan, Ed Jovanovski, Peter Mueller, Mikkel Boedker and Adrian Aucoin were among the participants. Prospects Jonas Ahnelov, Nick Ross and David Spina also skated, as did former Coyotes Derek Morris, Enver Lisin, Nick Boynton, and Jeff Taffe.

The workouts, which are open to the public, will continue for the next few weeks. Click here to see the schedule. The Coyotes veterans begin training camp on Sept. 13, one week after the prospects report.

I had a chance to speak with Mueller, who has been training here in the Valley recently. He said he is extremely eager to start his third NHL season and improve his performance from last
Mueller
season. To that end, Mueller has spent the past few months trimming down. He said he has dropped about seven pounds since the end of last season and his goal is to drop at least two more before training camp and report at about 205 pounds.

"It was tough for me last season because I was playing at a weight I was not familiar with and I just felt slow out there," Mueller said. "So, I took it upon myself to really concentrate on my conditioning, try to lose a lot of weight, watch what I eat and try to get as quick as I can."

Several fans have written me asking if the Coyotes still plan to sign forward Alex Tanguay, or any other free agent for that matter, before training camp starts.

While General Manager Don Maloney continues to look for quality players and deals that make sense, there is no rush to make a move. In fact, it is extremely unlikely that the Coyotes will sign any more free agents until after the team's ownership situation has been resolved next month.

The NHL on Wednesday released its broadcast schedule for various national television networks in the United States and Canada.

Here's the breakdown for the Coyotes:

On VERSUS:
Jan. 26: Coyotes at Detroit

On CBC's Hockey Night in Canada:
April 3:  Edmonton at Coyotes

On TSN:
Oct. 7: Coyotes at Pittsburgh
Nov. 25: Coyotes at Calgary
Dec. 16: Coyotes at Toronto
March 10: Vancouver at Coyotes

On TSN2:
Jan. 26: Coyotes at Detroit
Nov. 12: Montreal at Coyotes

We continue to work on a photo gallery for phoenixcoyotes.com and I would like to invite all Coyotes fans to help us build it.

Here’s the deal: The premise of the photo gallery is to show pictures of Coyotes fans wearing Coyotes apparel while sitting or standing in front of a recognizable landmark worldwide. For example, if you have a photo of yourself wearing Coyotes apparel while standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon or atop the Empire State Building or kissing the Blarney Stone, please send it to thedesertdogblog@phoenixcoyotes.com as a .jpg file. (Also, please make sure you identify whoever is in the photo.) Once we have gathered enough photos for a photo gallery, we will post it.

Thanks for reading.
