THE DESERT DOG BLOG: PRUCHA UPDATE

Forward Petr Prucha is day-to-day after being knocked out of Thursday night's game at Buffalo by a hard check by Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta early in the second period.

Petr Prucha
Prucha attended Friday's practice but he didn't skate.

"He had a little bit of a headache this morning so we kept him off (the ice)," Head Coach Dave Tippett said after Friday's practice at the Alltel Ice Den in Scottsdale. "We'll re-evaluate him tomorrow."

Tippett was asked to comment on Kaleta's hit.

"It's interesting," Tippett said. "It's the focus of the league right now that hits to the head are going to be looked at very close. It's close. It's a dirty hit. He's catching a player with his head down. I don't think he jumped at him but it's a hit to the head. Obviously, the league will look at it and that's as far as it goes."

ICE CHIPS

• Backup goalie Jason LaBarbera played a terrific game in his debut with the Coyotes on Thursday, but Ilya Bryzgalov will start in goal against Columbus on Saturday.

"It will be a day-to-day thing," Tippett said. "Both of them have played very well and we're going to need that. In the Western Conference you have heavy travel and you need everybody to be at the top of their game."

• Forward Taylor Pyatt skated with teammates on Friday for the first time since suffering a lower-body injury in a preseason game.

• The Coyotes typically wear their red or black sweaters for home games at Jobing.com Arena, but they will wear their white sweaters on Saturday as part of the Welcome Back Whiteout.
