Doan
GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Phoenix Coyotes President & Chief Operating Officer Douglas Moss announced today that the Coyotes will hold a special pre-game ceremony prior to the team’s 7 p.m. home game on Saturday, Dec. 26 against the Los Angeles Kings to honor Captain Shane Doan, who played the 1,000th regular season National Hockey League game of his career last night in Columbus.

In addition to the pre-game ceremony honoring Doan, the first 10,000 fans in attendance at the Dec. 26 game will receive a free Coyotes blanket, courtesy of AT&T.

Doan, 33, became just the second player in franchise history to appear in 1,000 games with the organization, joining retired defenseman Teppo Numminen, who holds the Club record with 1,098 games played. Doan also became the 24th player in NHL history to play 1,000 games for the team that drafted him and the 42nd player to appear in 1,000 games with one franchise.

Doan, now in his sixth season as captain of the Coyotes, has spent his entire 14-year NHL career with the organization. After being selected by Winnipeg with the seventh overall pick in the 1995 Entry Draft, Doan made his NHL debut with the Jets on Oct. 7, 1995 as an 18-year-old. Since then, he has become one of the most prolific players in team history and currently ranks among the franchise’s all-time leaders in goals (3rd, 265), points (3rd, 642) and assists (4th, 377).

What they’re saying about Shane Doan:

President & Chief Operating Officer Douglas Moss:
“The entire Coyotes organization is extremely proud of Shane for reaching this wonderful milestone. To play 1,000 games in the NHL, let alone playing them all with the same franchise, is an impressive accomplishment. Through it all, Shane has represented the Coyotes with class and dignity, and we could not ask for a better person to represent our organization.”

General Manager Don Maloney:
"If you were to build a hockey player to represent your franchise on and off the ice, you would be wise to use Shane as your blueprint for that player because he plays a real courageous, honest and hard-working game every game. Playing 1,000 games in this league is a real accomplishment. I hope he plays 1,000 more."

Head Coach Dave Tippett:
"I've only coached him for a third of a season, but I've noticed him my whole (coaching) career in the NHL. It's such a great accomplishment for a guy to get 1,000 games, but to do it all with the same organization is phenomenal. What he has meant to this organization is something that can never be overstated."

Defenseman and Alternate Captain Ed Jovanovski:
“It’s a great accomplishment. That’s a lot of years and a lot of games and it couldn’t happen to a better man. He’s such a genuine guy and he loves to compete. Whether things are going well for him or not, he brings the same effort every night.”

Defenseman and Alternate Captain Zbynek Michalek:
"It's a great accomplishment, especially with one team. You don't see that too often. I'm so happy for him. He's done so much for the team and the organization and the city, and people love him here and respect him so much. He's a great captain and it's been my privilege to be on his team for a fifth season now."

St. Louis Blues center and former Coyote Keith Tkachuk:
"He can do it all. He can kill penalties, play power play, he can fight, he can hit, he can skate, he can play against the other team's top players and he can carry the load offensively. You just don't find that special type of package in players anymore. I'm excited for him and his family. Congrats to the Doaner!"
