GLENDALE -- The Coyotes officially honored captain Shane Doan for playing 1,000 NHL games before Saturday’s game at Jobing.com Arena.

TV/radio host Todd Walsh emceed a 20-minute on-ice tribute, which included a brief speech by Doan in which he thanked teammates, staff members, family members and the fans for their support since he entered the NHL in 1995-96. In typical Doan fashion, Doan first thanked the Los Angeles Kings for their patience and their willingness to delay the start of the game for the ceremony.

Doan played his 1,000th NHL game on Dec. 17 at Columbus. Only Teppo Numminen (1,098) has played more games in the history of the Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets.

During the ceremony, two videos were played on the Jumbotron. In them, the following people congratulated Doan on his accomplishment: Keith Tkachuk, Keith Yandle, Matthew Lombardi, Ed Jovanovski, Don Maloney, Jukka Nieminen, Louie DeBrusk, Tyson Nash, Steve Nash, Brad May, Jarome Iginla, Derek Morris, Jeremy Roenick, Scott Niedermayer, Stan Wilson, Dave Tippett, Walsh and Gracie Doan.

The NHL, represented by Kris King (Doan’s former teammate/roommate), gave Doan a commemorative crystal. Jovanovski and Zbynek Michalek presented Doan with a Rolex watch and a saddle as gifts from his teammates. And Coyotes President Doug Moss and General Manager Don Maloney presented Doan with a career memory book, a framed photo collage of his time with Coyotes and a silver stick on behalf of the staff and the fans.

Doan’s wife Andrea and their four children joined him on the ice for the ceremony. So did his parents, Bernie and Bernice.

"It was very special," Doan said. "It was incredible having my wife and kids on the ice. That's such a unique thing. You never have your wife and kids on the ice with you before a game so to have them on the ice while I'm playing is pretty special. It was great."
