GLENDALE -- The Coyotes inducted former captain/defenseman Teppo Numminen into the franchise’s Ring of Honor on Saturday night in a pre-game ceremony inside Arena.

A banner with Numminen’s name and uniform number (27) was unveiled on the west side of the arena just below the press box. Numminen joins Dale Hawerchuk, Bobby Hull and Thomas Steen in the Ring of Honor, which recognizes and celebrates the best players in the history of the Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets franchise.

“I will always consider the Valley my home,” Numminen told the near-sellout crowd during the ceremony. “…This is a great hockey market.”

Numminen holds numerous franchise records including games played (1,098) and points by a defenseman (534). He made three NHL All-Star Game appearances as a member of the Coyotes.

Coyotes TV/Radio Host Todd Walsh emceed the ceremony, which was attended by Numminen's wife and three children, and his siblings.

During the ceremony, a video featuring highlights of Numminen's career and Coyotes captain Shane Doan was shown on the Jumbotron above center ice. Doan is the only member of the Coyotes who played with Numminen, and he succeeded him as captain.

In the video, Doan praised Numminen as an “incredible ambassador” for the Coyotes and told him he always looked up to him. Doan concluded his portion of the video by anointing Numminen “the sexiest man in Finland.”
