GLENDALE -- New Coyotes forward Lee Stempniak continues to score goals at an impressive pace.

Stempniak notched his 22nd and 23rd goals of the season in the third period Saturday night to help the Coyotes rally for a 5-4 shootout win over Chicago and extend their season-long victory streak to eight games in front of a sellout crowd of 17,534 at Arena.

Since joining the Coyotes in a trade-deadline deal on March 3, Stempniak has registered nine goals in eight games. In 62 games with Toronto before the trade, Stempniak scored 14 goals.

Stempniak says it's fun to be helping a hot team right now.

“I wanted to come here and just have a fresh start,” Stempniak said. “I scored goals before and I know I can do it, but it seems like it was one of those things tonight.”

Stempniak already has recorded three two-goal games for Phoenix, which hasn’t lost since adding him, Wojtek Wolski, Derek Morris, Petteri Nokelainen and Mathieu Schneider to the roster on March 3.

Stempniak said his performance Saturday night was just part of a much larger team effort.

“This was a big test for us,” Stempniak said. “To come back after a long road trip, it would’ve been easy for a letdown game, but we found a way. It’s a sign of character in the room.”

He added, “We get contributions from everybody and that’s how you win games.”

Stempniak credits his success in Phoenix to his teammates, who have helped make him feel at home.

“It’s been real easy (to fit in),” Stempniak said. “The first thing I noticed was it’s just a great group of guys. Everyone went out of their way to make me feel welcomed. I didn’t know anyone really, other then Keith Yandle in passing. So, for everyone to go out of their way and make you feel like you fit in, it obviously helps the transition on-ice, too.” is the official Web site of the Arizona Coyotes.
