GLENDALE -- The Coyotes will punctuate their 2010-11 Rookie Camp with games tonight  and Wednesday afternoon against the Los Angeles Kings’ rookies at Jobing.com Arena.

The young Coyotes have been preparing for the two games since reporting to camp on Sept. 10. On Monday, they had a productive day of practice that included an up-tempo scrimmage.

“(Monday) was special teams day, so we brought in some aspects of the power play and the penalty kill, and I thought they absorbed it pretty well and we had some success out there,” said Coach Ray Edwards, who has been running the rookie camp. “So, I thought it was a good day and I think they’re ready to play someone else. That’s what it’s all about so we’re excited.”

Edwards, who is the Head Coach of the team's AHL affiliate in San Antonio, also talked about how he and his players are taking the two-game series seriously.

“We want to win,” Edwards said. “Anytime you play you want to win. I’m excited for our players because this is an opportunity to prove that they belong and have a chance to get to (the NHL) camp.”

Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who is expected to see ice time in both games, said playing well in these games is the first step in his bid to make the NHL roster.

“It’s going to be a fun day,” Ekman-Larsson said. “And I’ll get to show the coaches if I want to stay, and I want to stay here for a long future.”

Mark Visentin, whom the Coyotes selected in first round of this year's NHL Entry Draft, is expected to start in goal tonight. Maxim Goncharov, Chris Summers and 2010 first-round draft pick Brandon Gormley, all highly-touted defensemen, also will play.

L.A.’s rookie roster features forward Brayden Schenn, and defensemen Thomas Hickey and Colten Teubert. All three are former first-round selections in the NHL Entry Draft.

Today’s game will start at 6 p.m. and Wednesday’s game is at 2 p.m. Both games are open to the public and free of charge.
