Tell-Us-Strader: TV Schedule Packed with Key Games

GLENDALE -- It’s hard to believe that I’m approaching my fourth season as the TV voice of the Coyotes. There certainly have been some bumps in the road, but after the season the team had on the ice last year, how can you not look forward to the 2010-11 campaign?

Ilya Bryzgalov and Shane Doan.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: one of my favorite days of the off-season is the day the TV schedule is announced. This year’s schedule is exciting for many reasons, but in particular because Fox Sports Arizona will carry a total of 60 regular-season games (that’s nine more than last season). Most of the games will be carried on the primary channel while the rest will be carried on FSAZ’s plus channel so be sure to check your local listings for each game. Each and every telecast will be HD!

The schedule also features five games on Versus, the most national appearances for the Coyotes since Versus became the national cable home of the NHL in 2005-06. The Versus games include the season opener against the Boston Bruins from Prague.

The FSAZ schedule begins with the home opener on Oct. 16 against the Detroit Red Wings. Could there be a better matchup for Coyotes’ fans? The last home game of the 2009-10 campaign was the bitter Game 7 loss to the Wings in the first round of the playoffs. Detroit is always a good draw at Jobing.com Arena, but NHL rivalries are developed after there has been an emotional playoff battle… enough said!

Here are more highlights and features of the 2010-11 TV schedule:

►20 of the 24 Pacific Division games: 19 on FSAZ; 1 on Versus

► Sidney Crosby and the Penguins visit Jobing.com Arena on Nov. 6 while the Coyotes visit Pittsburgh’s spectacular new home (Consol Energy Center) on Dec. 13.

► Alex Ovechkin and the Caps come to Glendale on Feb. 14 (yes, we’ll have to show more highlights of “The Goal”)

Tyson Nash
► The last 13 games of the season are on FSAZ/Plus so fans won’t miss any of the action in the stretch run to the playoffs.

I get to work another season with a tremendous group of dedicated people from FSAZ and the Coyotes. I also look forward to my second season with partner Tyson Nash, who has taken the leap into the TV booth with the same passion he displayed on the ice.

By the way, in addition to all the great Coyotes coverage you get here on this web site, be sure to follow me on Twitter: @TheVoiceDS. You should also follow Nasher: @Nashty18, Todd Walsh: @walshtodd, and Dave Vest: @davest4yotes.

The summer of 2010 was one of the best in recent memory back in the Glens Falls, N.Y. area where I spend the off-season. My battery is fully re-charged and I can’t wait for our first show on Oct. 16 from Jobing.com Arena.

See you then!
