Doan Reacts to Suspension
GLENDALE -- Coyotes captain Shane Doan spoke to the media after Tuesday's practice about the three-game suspension he received from the NHL for a hit he delivered to Anaheim's Dan Sexton in Sunday night's game at the Honda Center.

Shane Doan
Below are some of Doan's more interesting remarks:

• "I accept the decision of the NHL... but I disagree with it. I was pretty shocked at the fact I got suspended, let alone for three games."

• "Everything in the rules say the onus is on the hitter not to hit the player, not to hurt him, and I deliberately didn't hit him. I cut in front of him, I don't catch his head, but they want to send a message and obviously they did... I really don't understand it but I have to accept it, I guess."

• "Obviously the angle that they show over and over again doesn't look good because it's one angle from the back. You see the angle from the side, and you can see that I just take his ice, but the angle that they released with the press release is the one angle from behind where it looks bad. They're trying to drill the point across that we're being pro-active, and you have to accept it."

• "If I had wanted to hit Sexton in the head and my intent was to do that, I would have. But I deliberately just cut his hands off."

• "The thing that gets me is if my intent was to blindside him and to hit him then I would have hit him hard instead of just missing him."

• "Sexton is a great skater and all I am trying to do is just take his ice."

• (Ducks broadcaster Brian Hayward) used to play, and he's the one that just buries me. When you watch the video, he just goes on and on … I mean, Mr. (Hayward) should realize that … he's played the game, physicality is part of the game."

• "I've never been suspended and you feel guilty to your teammates... I feel bad. My job is to play the game."
