Aucoin\'s Blog: Wins Will Come If We Outwork Opponents
DETROIT – Our record is 2-3-3 after eight games and, obviously, that’s not the start we were looking for when the puck dropped on the season a few weeks back. We know that we are nowhere close to where we want to be. I think the biggest thing is we need to get back to being a team that outworks the opposition every night. That’s the only chance we have of getting the

outcome that we want. First and foremost, that starts with not giving up as many scoring chances as we have been. That has to be the approach we have to take.

Someone asked me if I think the long trip to Prague to start the season has had an impact on our slow start. Frankly, I do. I said before we left that I didn’t think it was a great idea. I think it’s a neat experience and I think it's great that the NHL is always looking to grow our game, but with all the travel we have to endure during the season, a trip like that is going to take that much more out of us. Ultimately, I don’t think that’s the reason that we’re not playing up to our potential but it’s probably partially to blame.

It’s always cool for me to play games in Ottawa because that’s where I’m from. I had about 50 friends/family members come watch Tuesday’s game vs. the Senators. Most of my friends and family members watch my games on TV but for some reason when you play in front of them live it’s always a different feeling. My father and brother were there for the games in Montreal and Ottawa. It was fun.”

On Thursday we will finish this road trip with a game against the Red Wings at “The Joe.” It will be a good game for us seeing as we haven’t been playing as well as we should be.

The thing about the Wings is that they’re a very skilled team that works very hard which means that we have to outcompete them because on paper they trump us. It will be a huge test for us, and hopefully a turning point for us.

Our schedule does not getting any easier after Thursday. On Saturday we will host Tampa Bay, a solid team with many skilled players. Obviously, Steven Stamkos is a talented young scorer. We can’t afford to give him any time or space with the puck, not only because of his shot but because he creates other opportunities for his teammates. He’s definitely going to draw a lot of our attention, but we can’t forget about Vinny Lecavalier and Marty St. Louis and the rest of the crew they have. They’re a good team. Then again, so are we. It will be a good game. is the official Web site of the Arizona Coyotes.
