Maloney Explains Prucha\'s Move to AHL
GLENDALE – The Coyotes sent forward Petr Prucha to the American Hockey League on Friday. General Manager Don Maloney said the move was made for two reasons:

“First of all, with the way we’re structured and if we, knock on wood, stay healthy, there’s really no place for him here right now,” Maloney said as he watched the team practice on Friday inside Arena. “With two extra forwards, he could be sitting for quite a while. So we said let’s put him down in San Antonio and let’s get him playing… Second, some of our younger players down there are playing very well and we might want to look at some of them at some point, so this move creates a little more roster room.”

The Coyotes placed Prucha on waivers on Thursday and he was not claimed by another team. That paved the way for Phoenix to send him to the San Antonio Rampage, who rank second in the 30-team AHL with 29 points, will play games tonight, Saturday and Sunday.

Maloney said it will be good for Prucha, who has been a healthy scratch 10 times with Phoenix this season, to play in that many games so quickly.

“Petr is a good player,” Maloney said. “If he can gain a little confidence with the puck, he’ll be ready to help us when we bring him back, which I’m sure we will at some point.”

He added, “When we need somebody and he’s the best guy down there, he’ll come back. But if somebody else is the best player down there, then it will be somebody else who we'll bring up.”

Prucha, who chipped in just one assist in 11 games this season, hasn’t played in the AHL since the 2005-06 season when he was with the New York Rangers organization. is the official Web site of the Arizona Coyotes.
