The day after scoring his first NHL playoff goal on his first NHL playoff shift, Coyotes center Kyle Turris was more concerned about moving ahead to Game 2 vs. the Red Wings than reflecting on his unique personal accomplishment in Game 1.![]() |

Turris beat Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard with a net-seeking snap shot from the bottom of the right faceoff circle at 2:16 of the first period. His goal, set up nicely via a backhanded pass from Ray Whitney from the right corner, gave Phoenix a 1-0 lead, but the Red Wings rallied for three goals in the second period en route to a 4-2 win.

Turris, 21, played 11:17 in Game 1, took two shots on goal, delivered a hit and won five of seven faceoffs. He was one of only three Coyotes to be plus-1 for the game.
“I go into every game trying to score and trying to help the team in any way I can,” Turris said. “Yesterday I took a nice pass from Ray Whitney and capitalized on that opportunity. Hopefully I can do more of that in this series.”
Turris said his introduction to NHL playoff hockey was eye-opening. And fun.
“To have my first playoff game at Joe Louis Arena was a lot of fun because they have so much history in the playoffs and a lot of that history happened there,” Turris said. “The atmosphere - the intensity of the crowd, the octopus flying on the ice, and just how loud it was - it was all part of the fun and very exciting for me.”

“I like the pressure of (high-stakes) games,” Turris said. “That’s the most fun part for me. The games are intense and the crowds are loud. It just makes it that much more fun.”
Turris said he enjoyed quieting the crowd inside Joe Louis Arena with his goal, and that he is eager to play his first home playoff game on Monday night at Jobing.com Arena.
First up is Game 2 on Saturday back at Joe Louis Arena.
“Everybody is ready to get back at it,” Turris said. “We had a good practice today and we’re back to the confidence level we were at when we got here. We’re ready to get Game 2 under way.”
