Boedker, Ekman-Larsson and Miele to Play in IIHF World Championship

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney today announced Coyotes left wing Mikkel Boedker (Denmark) and defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Sweden) will join Andy Miele (United States) in representing their home countries at the 2011 IIHF World Championship in Bratislava and Kosice, Slovakia beginning on April 29 to May 15.

The 5-foot-11, 202 pound Boedker split the 2010-11 season with the San Antonio Rampage (AHL) and the Coyotes. In 36 games with the Rampage, he recorded 12-22-34 and eight penalty minutes (PIM). In 34 games with the Coyotes, the 21-year-old native of Brondby, Denmark collected 4-10-14 and eight PIM and was a plus-11. He also played in four Western Conference Quarter-final games against Detroit, recording one assist.

Boedker was drafted by the Coyotes in the first-round (eighth overall) in the 2008 Entry Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 190 pound Ekman-Larsson played 48 games with the Coyotes this season, registering 1-10-11 and 24 PIM. In 15 games with San Antonio, the 19-year-old native of Karlskrona, Sweden recorded 3-7-10 and 16 PIM. Ekman-Larsson won a bronze medal with Sweden at last year’s IIHF World Championship. In nine games, he collected 1-2-3 and was a plus-3. Ekman-Larsson recorded 20:02 TOI in the bronze medal victory over Germany.

Ekman-Larsson was drafted by the Coyotes in the first-round (sixth overall) in the 2009 Entry Draft.

The 5-foot-9, 180 pound Miele had an outstanding 2010-11 season with Miami University, leading the RedHawks and the entire NCAA with 24-47-71 in just 39 games. The 2011 Hobey Baker Award winner ranks second on Miami’s single-season assists list and recorded the most assists since 1978-79. In addition, 22-year-old native of Grosse Point Woods, Michigan is tied for second in single-season points at Miami, which are also the most points since 1978-79.
