GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- ESPN The Magazine announced today that the Phoenix Coyotes have been chosen as the top sports franchise in Arizona in the magazine’s ninth annual Ultimate Standings which measure how much NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB franchises give back to the fans in exchange for all the time, money and emotion the fans invest in them. The Coyotes ranked 28th overall on ESPN The Magazine’s list of the 122 best and worst professional sports franchises in North America and ranked 10th among all NHL teams.

“We are honored that ESPN The Magazine chose the Coyotes as the best sports franchise in the Valley and the 28th best team among the four major sports,” said Coyotes Chief Operating Officer Mike Nealy. “Our organization has made great strides both on and off the ice and we will continue to work hard to provide our fans with a winning product, great value and first class entertainment.”

The eight major categories which make up the Ultimate Standings include: Bang For The Buck - Wins during the past three years (regular season plus postseason) per revenues directly from fans, adjusted for league schedules; Fan Relations - Openness and consideration toward fans by players, coaches and management; Ownership - Honesty and loyalty to core players and local community; Affordability - Price of tickets, parking and concessions; Stadium Experience - Quality of arena and game-day promotions as well as friendliness of environment; Players - Effort on the field and likability off it; Coaching - Strength of leadership; and Title Track - Championships already won or expected in the lifetime of current fans. The rankings include a fan survey as well as examinations of ticket prices and other performance measures.

The Coyotes have made the National Hockey League playoffs the past two seasons. In 2009-10, the team set a franchise record with 52 wins and 107 points in the Western Conference. Last season, the Coyotes won 43 games and recorded 99 points, marking the first time in franchise history that the team has recorded back to back 40 plus win seasons and 99 plus point seasons.

Across the four major sports in North America, the Green bay Packers rank No. 1 as the best on the ESPN list followed by the Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL), New Orleans Saints (NFL), Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (MLB), San Antonio Spurs (NBA), Oklahoma City Thunder (NBA) and Pittsburgh Steelers (NFL).
