Coyotes to Select 20th Overall in First Round of 2011 NHL Entry Draft

The Phoenix Coyotes currently own the 20th overall draft selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, which begins Friday, June 24 at the XCEL Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota and will be televised on VERSUS at 4 p.m. M.S.T.

The Coyotes currently hold eight picks in the seven-round draft, including two in the second round. At last year’s draft in Los Angeles, Phoenix selected defenseman Brandon Gormley with the 13th overall pick and goaltender Mark Visentin with the 27th overall pick in the first round.

COYOTES SELECTIONS IN 2011 NHL ENTRY DRAFT:

Round 2 – 56th overall* (from Philadelphia Flyers)
Round 3 – 84th overall^ (from Philadephia Flyers)
Round 4 – 111th overall

*Phoenix acquired the Philadelphia Flyers’ second-round pick (56th overall), in exchange for Daniel Carcillo on Mar. 4, 2009.

** Phoenix traded its third-round selection (81st overall) to Boston, in exchange for Derek Morris on Mar. 3, 2010.

^Phoenix acquired the Philadelphia Flyers’ third-round pick (84th overall) because Philadelphia signed goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov before the draft started.

#Phoenix acquired the New York Islander’s sixth-round pick (155th overall), in exchange for Al Montoya on Feb 9, 2011.

##Phoenix acquired the New York Rangers’ seventh-round pick (201st overall), in exchange Anders Eriksson on Mar. 3, 2010.

The Coyotes will also host a Bud Light NHL Entry Draft Viewing Party on Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 18 Degrees Neighborhood Grill, located at the Ice Den in Scottsdale (9375 E. Bell Road - just east of Pima on Bell Road). Admission to the event is free. The event will be hosted by Coyotes announcers Bob Heethuis and Luke Lapinski, while Coyotes defenseman Derek Morris will be available to sign autographs and talk to fans. In addition, Howler will be on hand to greet and entertain fans and a raffle will run throughout the event. Fans will have the opportunity to win autographed Coyotes merchandise among other prizes.

During the Draft Viewing Party, 18 Degrees will offer a drink special of $2.00 Bud Light pints and $2.00 Budweiser bottles. Plenty of food specials will be available for purchase including, half off all appetizers as well as 16-inch pizzas with one topping and two dozen wings for $21.99.

Following the Bud Light NHL Entry Draft Viewing Party, fans in attendance will also have an opportunity to take part in the Ice Den’s free open skate from 7:20 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. A special skate rental price of $5.00 will be available to all fans attending the party.
