Coyotes Re-sign Korpikoski to Two-Year Contract

GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have avoided the arbitration process and re-signed forward Lauri Korpikoski to a two-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are very pleased to sign Lauri to a two-year contract,” said Maloney. "Lauri is an excellent skater, a versatile forward and an important player on our team. We are happy to avoid arbitration and finalize a contract."

Last season, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Korpikoski led the team with two short-handed goals and was tied for second on the team in goals (19) and plus-minus (plus-17). Korpikoski collected a career-high three assists in a win vs. Calgary on Nov. 12, 2010. He was fifth on the team in scoring (19-21-40) and recorded a career-high five-game point streak (2-5-7) from Jan. 10 –Jan. 17, 2011.

The 24-year-old native of Turku, Finland set new career highs in goals (19), assists (21), points (40), game-winning goals (4) and games played (79) during the 2010-11 season. The Coyotes were 21-6-3 when he registered a point, 11-5-1 when he scored a goal and 13-4-2 record when he collected an assist.

In three NHL seasons with the Coyotes and New York Rangers, Korpikoski has played in 218 regular season games, registering 30-35-65 and 50 PIM. He has also appeared in 19 Stanley Cup Playoff games, recording 2-3-5 and four PIM. Phoenix acquired Korpikoski from the New York Rangers in exchange for Enver Lisin on July 13, 2009.
