GLENDALE – The Coyotes begin the exhibition season with a bang this week playing three games over two nights on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Twenty-eight players will fly to Southern California after a workout on Tuesday morning to play the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center (7 p.m.).

On Wednesday, the same group of players will head to Los Angeles to play a split-squad game vs. the Kings at the Staples Center. Twelve of the 28 players on the trip will play in both games.

Meanwhile, the Coyotes will host a split-squad game vs. the Kings at Jobing.com Arena on Wednesday night.

“A lot of players will get in games so it will be a good time to evaluate,” Head Coach Dave Tippett said Monday. “When you play against another team (in the preseason) there are some players who tend to stand out in that environment, so that’s what we’re looking for.”

All of the coaches will attend the Anaheim game. Tippett and Associate Coach Jim Playfair will fly back to Phoenix for Wednesday’s home game. Assistant Coach John Anderson and AHL Head Coach Ray Edwards will coach the road game in LA.

“There are certainly some players that we want to see more than once so they’ll be in the back-to-back games,” Tippett said. “…The majority of the veterans will stay home for the home game (on Wednesday).”

After Wednesday’s games, the Coyotes will have two more practice days then head to San Jose on Saturday morning for an exhibition game that night.

► New goalie Mike Smith made multiple dazzling saves in Monday’s scrimmage to lead Team B over Team C – 2-1.

Tyler Eckford and Martin Hanzal scored goals for Team B. Chris Summers scored for Team C on a penalty shot.

Paul Bissonnette
► Forward Paul Bissonnette stole the show at the end of Team C’s post-scrimmage practice on Monday by scoring a slick goal during a penalty shot contest.

What made his feat even more impressive was that Bissonnette’s teammates were playfully trying to distract him by pounding their sticks on the ice in unison as he skated toward goalie Louis Domingue. Their attempt failed and Bissonnette celebrated with a sneaky smile.

Bissonnette, by the way, will be a guest on Fox Sports Arizona’s Diamondbacks pre-game show Monday night at 6:30 p.m.
