GLENDALE -- Players around the NHL, including several of the Coyotes, are growing mustaches this month in support of “Movember,” which has quickly become one of the more important and fan-friendly charitable fights within the hockey community.

Aucoin

By growing mustaches in the month of November, thousands of men across the globe raise awareness for prostate cancer, and other cancers that afflict men of all ages.

Bissonnette

Here's why they are so passionate about men’s health:

• 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer
• A man is diagnosed with prostate cancer every 2.2 minutes
• 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer
• 24 percent of men are less likely to go to the doctor compared to women

“The guys are getting uglier by the day,” Coyotes defenseman Adrian Aucoin joked when asked to comment about all the new facial hair around the team's dressing room. “But it’s pretty cool because you play against other teams and you can get a good laugh out of it. And it’s all for a good cause.”

Doan

Forward Paul Bissonnette is one of the Coyotes players taking part in the campaign.

“Mine is growing in a little slow but check back with me in a week and it will look great,” Bissonnette predicted. “I’ve just got to get a little character into it.”

LaBarbera

According to Movember’s official web site, the men who grow mustaches this month – aka “Mo Bros” – effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November.

Through their actions and words they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.
