Coyotes Prospects Stand Out at WJC
Three young players within the Coyotes’ organization fared quite well at the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation’s World Junior Championship.

Canadians Mark Visentin and Brandon Gormley each played key roles for Team Canada, which won the bronze medal as the host country.

• Visentin, whom the Coyotes selected with the 27th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, posted a 3-1-0 record in the elite tournament, and stopped all 27 shots he faced in Canada’s 4-0 win over Finland in the bronze medal game on Jan. 5. He was named that game’s Most Valuable Player.

"Mark had a good tournament and was outstanding in today's bronze-medal game," Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney said. "He made six or seven key saves, including two breakaways and a penalty shot, to kill any Finnish momentum. Mark finished this tournament as a dominant player."

• Gormley, whom the Coyotes selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, notched three goals and three assists in six games and had a plus-minus rating of plus-4. After the gold-medal game, Gormley was named to the All World Junior Championship Team and also was named the tournament's Top Defenseman.

"Brandon was the best defenseman for Canada," Maloney said. "He was smart, steady, confident and reliable - everything a coach looks for in a defenseman - all tournament long."

Alexander Ruuttu, whom the Coyotes selected with the 51st overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, ranked second on Team Finland with three goals in seven games. Finland reached the bronze-medal game but lost to Canada.

"Alex scored three goals in this tournament showing a heavy shot and good offensive instincts," Maloney said. "He needs to get physically stronger yet shows signs of being an NHL prospect." is the official Web site of the Arizona Coyotes.
