Tippett Notches 400th NHL Victory
Monday, March 19, 2012

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Phoenix Coyotes Head Coach Dave Tippett won his 400th career NHL game last night versus the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Arena in Edmonton, Alberta.

Dave Tippett
Tippett ranks second among all NHL Head Coaches in victories since the beginning of the 2002-03 season, trailing only Detroit’s Mike Babcock with 415 wins. His overall 129-77-31 (289 points) record in 237 games is the highest points percentage of any head coach in franchise history.

Since Tippett’s arrival in the desert at the start of the 2009-10 season, the Coyotes have posted a record of 66-25-30 in one-goal games; while the franchise has registered a scintillating 94-12-14 record when scoring the first goal. He has never posted a losing season as an NHL Head Coach, and has qualified for the postseason in seven of eight seasons behind the bench.

Tippett recorded his 100th career victory with the Coyotes on November 5, 2011 versus the Oilers, becoming the fastest coach in franchise history to reach the 100-win plateau. In 2009-10 and 2010-11, he led the Coyotes to consecutive 40-plus win seasons for the first time in franchise history and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in back-to-back seasons, marking the first time the franchise reached the postseason in consecutive seasons since the 1998-99-1999-2000 campaigns.

The native of Moosomin, Saskatchewan was a near-unanimous selection, receiving 57 of 59 first-place votes for 291 points to capture his first Jack Adams Award in 2010. Tippett became the fourth head coach in Coyotes/Jets franchise history to win the Jack Adams Award, joining Tom Watt (1982), Bob Murdoch (1990) and Bob Francis (2002).

Prior to becoming a coach, Tippett played 11 years as a forward in the National Hockey League with the Hartford Whalers, Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers. In 721 career NHL games, he registered 93 goals and 169 assists for 262 points and 317 penalty minutes. is the official Web site of the Arizona Coyotes.
