Coyotes to Select 27th Overall in First Round of Friday\u2019s NHL Entry Draft

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The Phoenix Coyotes currently own the 27th overall draft selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, which begins this Friday, June 22 at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, PA and will be televised on the NBC Sports Network beginning at 4 p.m. P.D.T.

The Coyotes hold nine picks (tied for the fourth-most) in the seven-round draft, including two in the third round. At last year’s draft in St. Paul, MN, Phoenix selected defenseman Connor Murphy with the 20th overall pick in the first round.

Phoenix owns the 27th overall selection for only the third time in franchise history (Mark Visentin – 2010; Boris Mironov – 1992). It marks the latest the organization has drafted a player since the 2003 Entry Draft, when the Coyotes took forward Tyler Redenbach with the 77th overall pick.

PHOENIX COYOTES SELECTIONS IN THE 2012 NHL ENTRY DRAFT:

Round 1 – 27th overall
Round 2 – 58st overall
Round 3 – 81st overall* (from Philadelphia)
Round 3 – 88th overall
Round 4 – 102nd overall# (from Colorado)
Round 5 – 148th overall
Round 6 – 178th overall
Round 7 – 184th overall^ (from Montreal)
Round 7 – 208th overall

*Phoenix acquired the Philadelphia Flyers’ third-round pick (81st overall), in exchange for Ilya Bryzgalov on June 7, 2011.

#Phoenix acquired the Colorado Avalanche’s fourth-round pick (102nd overall) in exchange for Daniel Winnik on June 28, 2010.

^Phoenix acquired the Montreal Canadiens’ seventh-round pick (184th overall), in exchange for Petteri Nokelainen on Oct. 23, 2011.

Once again, the Coyotes will partner with Bud Light & 18 Degrees Neighborhood Grill at the Ice Den to host the 2012 NHL Entry Draft Viewing Party on Friday, June 22.

Hockey fans throughout the Valley can watch the 2012 NHL Entry Draft from the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, PA beginning at 4 p.m. P.D.T. at 18 Degrees Neighborhood Grill, located inside the Ice Den (9375 East Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85260).

Several food and drink specials will be available throughout the evening including: the entire Happy Hour menu, $2.75 Bud Light pints, $2.75 Michelob Ultra pints, $7 BBQ Pork Riblets with fries and $7 chili cheese fries.

Coyotes radio play-by-play announcer Bob Heethuis and radio host Luke Lapinski will host the 2012 Draft Party, providing detailed analysis throughout the evening. The Paw Patrol will also be on hand to give away raffle prizes, including some autographed merchandise.

In addition, team sales representatives will be in attendance for fans to learn and ask questions about 2012-13 Phoenix Coyotes season ticket packages.

First round coverage of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft will be shown in its entirety on the NBC Sports Network on Friday, June 22 beginning at 4 p.m. P.D.T.
